Prelude to
The Tea Festival
Well I heard a little rumour
That the city's in the dumps these days
So I go and ask my servant about it
While I sit and enjoy my entrée
“Well, the peasants have been asking for food,
and they haven't been getting much, they say.”
“What, how could that be? Preposterous!
Go fetch me my coat and dress, and we'll be on our way.”
“Madame, please! We're starving!”
Cried the crowds, the streets shuddering with hate
“People, you must be mistaken! The ground,
it's strewn with chocolate! I allow you to have a taste.”
“Chocolate? It's mud, you stuffy fu-”
Though the fair lady blotted out the foul language, lest she faint.
“Oh, why, how dare you, scoundrels?
Turning up your nose away from your plate?”
And then, an idea struck the mistress's mind
“Well, alright, would you all like to have some tea tonight?”
